The day we brought home an eight-week-old puppy, who we named Dewey Theodore, he instantly became an important part of our family. Everyday life took on new twists and turns with this little guy scampering around the house. He made the joyful times all that much better and the sad times, more bearable. He was truly a gift and he completed us.

After sixteen wonderful years with our precious Dewey, he died from kidney failure. My husband and I, as well as the rest of the family were shattered. The house suddenly felt empty and lonely. The sounds of his collar and tags rattling as he ran through the house and the pitter-patter of his paws on the floor were gone. The excited greeting everyone received when they walked through the front door would never happen again. The pain was indescribable and it felt as though a part of our hearts had been ripped out.

Being a professional singer/songwriter for years, I have composed many songs about meaningful moments in my life and after Dewey’s passing, I wrote one in his memory. My hope was to portray his life with the words in the song, so that each time we heard it, the beautiful memories of who he was and the joy that he gave to everyone, would comfort us.

The song titled “The Far Side Of The Ridge” came out exactly as I had hoped and after recording the song in a state of the art studio, my husband produced a video to go along with it, using photos of Dewey that we had saved over the years. The finished production felt perfect because the words in the song, beautifully blended with the memories caught on camera, captured the essence of Dewey’s heart, warmth, love and devotion.

The first time we watched the completed music video, we both cried. It touched us in a way that is hard to describe. It is an amazing tribute to our precious angel and one that will last forever.
